France & Spain 2023 - Foreign Trip

Trip Report

We left Kingdom's garage on the 30/3 at 8pm and headed to Dover to catch the ferry to France. On a wet morning we caught the 4.30am ferry with the forecast of rough seas. Luclily the crossing was alright and we headed through the French countryside to our first stop the Ibis Europe Hotel at Chalon Sur Saone. With the Buffalo Grill shut and the Hotel restaurent fully booked it looked like a walk to the town center for McD. Luckily a restaurent was spotted not far away from our hotel. We walked across to the Courtpaille restaurent and it most have been good as we booked a meal for on the way home. The next morning , 1/4, we headed south to Marseille. Upon arrival after settling in we walked to the beach and the parents and children enjoyed the run around despite the stiff wind. The result was 5-5 and we walked back to the hotel for evening meal across the road in a popular local restaurent. The french tv moved Marseille match to Friday night so we had to find another match. The closest was Monaco but with the driver out of hours we had to catch the underground to Marseille center and then train to Nice and onto Monaco. We arrived in Monaco and walked to our Hotel near Monaco's stadium. The Hotel Columbus was excellent and most tried out the outdoor heated pool. We walked round the corner to the lovely stadium of Monaco and watched them beat Strasbourg 4-3. We started to walk back and decided to have an evening meal in a restaurent on the harbour side before returning to our hotel. Many of the adults and children went and saw parts of the grand prix circuit. The 3/4 saw us walk back to the station and catch the train back to Marseille again via Nice passing loads of seaside resorts including Cannes. When we arrived in Marseille we went for a staduim tour of the excellent staduim before returning to the Mercure Prado Hotel. Before going to evening meal in the same restaurent opposite alot went to the beach and the sea. The next morning the 4/4 we set off for Spain travelling passed alot of shiny sea and then the Pyrenees mountains. Our first stop was Girona were everybody enjoyed the excellent stadium tour. We drove onto Callella and the Hotel GHT Maritim were most tried out the indoor and outdoor pools. Evening meal was at the hotel and for 3 euros 50 cents we were treated to plenty of choice and buffet style quality food. After that we retreated to the bar joined by the children till the end of a good day.
