Trip Report
Twyford left Kingdom Garage Tiverton at 4am on the 2nd April 2015 and headed to the Channel Tunnel. Upon reaching the other side we headed through France and Belgium for a one night stop at the Hotel Van Der Valk at Gilze. We were all surprised at the standard of the hotel and made good use of it's excellent facilities. Next morning, Good Friday, we travelled the short distance to Rotterdam to play in the tournament at Zwaluwen. The host club had excellent facilities which include 7 pitches some of which were astro. Our older team lost 13-12 on penalties in the final to Heracles. A Dutch Pro side. The younger team played a year older teams and found the going tough. We then travelled upto the Center Parcs at De Emmhof for the rest of stay at the excellent Marina Apartments. Evening in a swanky Center Paecs restaurent resulted in alot of the boys making their own Pizza. Next morning the boys all went swimming in the massive indoor complex. Before we left for a tournament arranged for us at Hengelo. The standard of facilities and teams was very high here but the older team again reached the final against the host. Losing on sudden death penalties. The younger ones again found the going tough although showing more spirit. The short distance to Enschede to watch PSV Eindhoven defeat Twente to virtually win the league followed. Memphis Depay look quality. On the Sunday we travelled to Utrecht to watch them draw 1-1 with Ajax. Everybody loved the atmosphere of a derby. Utrecht once again pleasing everybody. On Easter Monday we travelled south of Rotterdam to play in a tournament at OSV Beijerland. Again excellent facilties which put our country to shame. This time the older ones finished second without penalties. The younger ones perked up to win their age group. The clubhouse was excellent here. Really enjoyed the feel of the whole place. Tuesday was driver's day off and did'nt he make the most of it. The boys enjoyed a lay in but were soon up and off to enjoy all a Center Parcs has to offer. Incidently we had a carvery most nights at the Center Parcs. Eat as much as you want 10 Euros for children. The boys probably had their 10 Euros and more in Ice Cream. On Wednesday we went to Amsterdam where the boys had an excellent tour of Ajax before a friendly across the lake against Spakenburg which the older ones won and the younger ones won the penalty shoot out. Again another club with excellent facilities. Thusday we travelled two and half hours for a tour of Borussia Dortmund. What a stadium. Worth the journey. On the way back we called into Schalke for a quick look and a Burger King which Dillon Phillips loved. Friday we travelled to Arnhem where we were given an excellent tour of Vitesse by two amazing tour guides. We then went across the Bridge To Far before visiting the war museum. The boys much to my surprise really enjoyed this. After this we visited the British War Graves. Very Moving. On Saturday the boys had plenty of free time at the Center Parcs before travelling to Heerenveen for their night match against AZ Alkmaar. This match was a thriller which ended 5-2 to Heerenveen despite AZ taking the lead twice. Highlight of the trip for me. On the Sunday we visited the theme park Walibi. The boys thought it was superb because the rides were not too spread out and were very good. The Ice Creams were lovely. On the Monday we travelled home via a Calais KFC and Channel Tunnel. I enjoyed the trip, everybody got home safe and hoprfully everybody else enjoyed it as well..
