Bolton Trip - Foreign Trip

Trip Report

Twyford Spartans to a residential stay at Bolton Wanderers FC staying in the hotel in one end of the ground, which is called The De Vere White. The purpose of this 5 day stay was to improve the relationship of 14 boys who attend 6 different schools and to make them friends.

On the way to Bolton Twyford called in to Manchester for a tour of both United and City’s grounds. Whilst City’s ground is newer the tour of United’s ground was far superior. On arrival at the hotel the boys used the hotel swimming pool before attending the a la carte restaurant for evening meal. The hotel very kindly allowed the boys to have free coke whenever they wanted.

On the Tuesday the boys were trained at the Bolton Wanderers Leisure Centre by the Under 13 academy coach of Bolton. The Bolton staff complemented the boys on their behaviour. After their evening the boys hared to Burnley to see them beat Aston Villa 3-1, the game was a thriller and the boys enjoyed the Burnley singing supporters.

Wednesday we travelled to Blackpool where the boys entertained themselves for the whole at the tremendous Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Upon returning to Bolton the lads left the hotel at 7.45 for the 8pm kick off for the match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs won in extra time 4-3 in what was another exciting game.

The Thursday morning Bolton very kindly gave them a free tour of their excellent Reebok Stadium, which apart from size compares with any. After this again we went to Blackpool and went for a swim in the superb Sandcastles situated on the beach. In the evening the boys played ten pin bowling next to the ground.

On Friday the boys departed their luxurious hotel with the words of the manager complementing them on their behaviour ringing in their ears. They travelled across the pennines to the Leeds Utd training ground where they watched the first team train under Kevin Blackwell before receiving a tour of the Leeds academy which up to the end of last season was one of only eight in the Premier League. Sticks then gave the boys a free tour of Elland Road and then waved us on our way back to Tiverton.

Whilst at Bolton the boys were lucky that the hotel was used by Bolton Wanderers first team squad as a base allowing the boys to obtain autographs and pictures of some premiership stars. At Leeds Utd the injured Lucas Radebe encouraged the boys to always believe in their ability and to always take life’s chances.
