Following several new signings for Twyford Barca, we decided to switch positions for todayÂÂÂÂs opening fixture against Tiverton Town Whites. Liam Gillbard started upfront for Twyford and caused problems for our opponents weaving through their midfield. With strong support from Toby Heard and Billy Curtis this led to an early corner for Twyford Barca.
The first half was a close fought contest with Aaron Long, Toby Place and Konnor Tebby pushing back the advances from Tiverton Town Whites. Our best chance for a goal came from good link up play between Toby Heard and Liam Gillbard midway through the half. Debut Keeper Jakub Kulczyki had little to do until a shot from distance broke the deadlock. Twyford went in at the break having challenged for the ball and pressurising our opponents, a very respectable 3-0 to the visitors.
Substitutes Keane Moore and Robert Wakeham came on for Konnor Tebby and Jakub Kulczyki at half time moving Toby Heard into goal and Aaron Long into midfield. This change seemed to favour our opponents who stepped up the pace and opened up our defence.
Despite a number of good saves from Toby Heard in goal, we struggled to get back into the game and Tiverton Town Whites were able to pass through midfield and have a number of shots on goal. The final whistle blew with the score at 14-0 to the visiting team.
