Type: EDYL = Exeter & District Youth League

DATE TYPE FIXTURE GOAL SCORERS
05.12.2009 EDYL Sidmouth Raiders v Twyford Barca Liam Gillbard (1)

The second game of the day was against Sidmouth Raiders. Again with a downhill advantage our Twyford side started strong. Konnor Tebby swapped places seeing Aaron Long making a return to the Twyford goal. Our Barca team had the run of play creating numerous opportunities on goal. The deadlock was broken after a shot from Liam Gillbard slid past the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Konnor Tebby produced a perfectly timed tackle in the first half to deny an equaliser from our opponents. However, Sidmouth Raiders managed to hold off the advancing Twyford attack after the goal to keep the deficit to just one goal at half time.

After the break, Sidmouth used the downhill slope to turn the tables and had an onslaught of attempts on the Twyford goal. The spectators were treated to a moment of brilliance when the Raiders hammered a shot from long range which saw keeper; Aaron Long make a sensational world-class leap to his left to turn the ball away from the top right corner of the goal and behind for a corner. This was a save worthy of a cup final!

Our opponents continued to bombard the Twyford keeper from several corners as they kept us pinned in our own penalty box. The inevitable equaliser came from an own goal after a defensive header lobbed our keeper and bounced into the net. Sidmouth put away a second in the last few minutes of the game denying a deserved draw.

We were very unlucky to come away without any points from either game but must congratulate every player on their best performance. Sidmouth were excellent hosts and played fairly and with faultless spirit. Two very enjoyable games for players, managers and spectators that you would be hard pushed to find bettered all season.
