Match Report - Twyford Lyon - B U13's 2009/10

 Twyford Lyon kept their hopes of winning the league alive with a good 6-3 away win at Bridgwater VPR in a game that they dominated but threatened to throw away several times. Lyon went ahead early when Nick Merriam finished off a good move involving Dan Hayfield and Richard Sandiford but the home team replied almost immediately. Again Lyon took the lead when Merriam headed in Dan Verrier's excellent corner and settled into playing some good football with Tom Roberts and Aaron Farebrother lively in midfield. Again Lyon were punished by a lack of concentration as VPR equalised once more. Merriam claimed his hatrick when he ran on to a good Farebrother pass and struck a sweet shot into the corner of the net. The first half finished all square when VPR again refused to let the game go away from them.

The second half saw Lyon show a bit more determination with their challenges and they looked more composed after they regained the lead. Dan Hayfield's throughball found Alex Wright who wasn't going to be caught and calmly sidefooted home. This time Lyon continued to press and scored when Verriers corner was flicked on by Merriam to un unfortunate defender who flicked it into his own goal. Tom Roberts rounded off the scoring when his run was spotted by Farebrother. He drew the keeper and found the corner of the net.

There were good performances from Ricky Morrey Jones in goal and Tom Haines who had a strong game at the heart of the defence.
