Match Report - Twyford Barca - B U10's 2010/11

Type: EDYL = Exeter & District Youth League

DATE TYPE FIXTURE GOAL SCORERS
16.10.2010 EDYL Beacon Knights v Twyford Barca Toby Heard (1)

Having faced Beacon Knights before, we knew that this would be a tight fixture. It was a very even contest in the opening minutes, Brandon Davies and Toby Heard pressed the opposition hard keeping them in their own half. Beacon Knights found the long throws from Aaron Long to be difficult to defend against and this enabled Patrick Smith and Eden Reynell to come close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

A change of personnel saw Jakub Kulczyki take up central midfield and Keelan Vellacott down the left wing. Beacon saw this as an opportunity and fought their way back into the game charging through the middle. Zack Veen and Aaron Long saw off many advancing Beacon attacks with very brave clearances and decisive tackles. However, it was in the dying moments when Knights found themselves 1 on 1 with Keeper; Konnor Tebby and took the lead just before the half time whistle.

Our opponents came out with renewed confidence following their goal keeping the ball, passing through our midfield and firing numerous shots over the crossbar or wide of the post. Trying to grab an equaliser we committed players forward, Eden Reynell’s shot saved by their keeper. Beacon’s second goal was fired at close range into the top corner.

An unfortunate penalty for hand-ball gave Beacon Knights a third goal and their fourth came soon after. Our players did not give up and began to get back into the game; an excellent pass from Brandon Davies to Patrick Smith almost led to an opportunity for Twyford Barca. Aaron Long continued to cause problems with his long throw-ins and after a fifth goal, he launched a ball over a Beacon defender straight into the path of Toby Heard who struck a fierce left foot shot straight into the back of the Beacon goal.

With some training on not giving as much time on the ball, our side will improve on these minor points. Ignoring the result, we played as a team and created a number of chances.
