Match Report - Twyford Barca - B U10's 2010/11

Type: EDYL = Exeter & District Youth League

DATE TYPE FIXTURE GOAL SCORERS
05.02.2011 EDYL AC Heavitree v Twyford Barca Matthew Reed (1), Patrick Smith (1)

Taking advantage of being 7 players versus 6, our players hardly had time to draw breath as our opponents scored two lightning quick goals in the first minute. Both goals were created by a succession of quick passes between central midfield and right wing and being a player short. The home side were relentless as another two goals saw us go 4-0 down after only 4 minutes and facing the prospect of our largest defeat of the season.

Full credit to our players, we dug deep and defended hard as an onslaught of attacks from AC Heavitree were thwarted by defenders Aaron Long and Zack Veen and our goalkeeper; Konnor Tebby. We absorbed the pressure and began to fight our way back with fantastic team spirit and by letting the football do the work.

A long goal kick from Aaron Long sent the ball over the heads of AC Heavitree and striker; Matt Reed was able to go around a defender and hammer it into the roof of the goal to lessen the deficit. Heavitree responded and the half time whistle saw a 5-1 score line going into the break.

Konnor Tebby swapped goalie gloves for defensive duty seeing a return to the sticks of Aaron Long and the second half was a very scrappy and physical battle, with free kicks being awarded to Twyford for late challenges, elbows and shirt pulling. We continued to move the ball around the pitch utilising the wide ball out to Eden Reynell and Matt Reed. However the goal of the day must go to Patrick Smith who opened his Twyford account through stunning build up play going around two players before drawing the keeper out to lob the ball over him was absolutely sensational.

Twyford put on an excellent performance and I am extremely proud of every single player today. Zack and Aaron were absolutely superb in defence, but a lack of players was the difference in the results and I could not have asked for anymore effort. Everyone gave 110% against strong opposition who used the extra player to their advantage. I am really pleased for Patrick who has been looking for his first goal for his club and was rewarded with a goal that Match of the Day would love to show on television.
