Match Report - Twyford Barca - B U10's 2010/11

Type: EFLC = Exeter Friendly League Cup

DATE TYPE FIXTURE GOAL SCORERS
13.11.2010 EFLC Twyford Barca v Honiton Sharks Jack Walton (1)

Today’s match started nervously for both teams, highlighting what progression in the Exeter & District cup would mean to their players. There was nothing to separate play in the opening minutes as Twyford’s midfield of Toby Heard, Patrick Smith and Eden Reynell linked well to give a couple of attempts on the Honiton goal.

Honiton knuckled down and stormed the left wing, drawing our players towards the ball and creating some holes in our defence. The visitors used the space they created to run at Aaron Long and Zack Veen. A couple of good attempts on our goal were saved by keeper Konnor Tebby.

Twyford were forced to chase the game after Honiton snuck a goal after five minutes. Our players showed great fight and determination after the goal and began to play our style of passing football. Jack Walton, Eden Reynell and Toby Heard managed to keep possession, charge down the opposition and pin them in their own half. Patrick Smith demonstrated his skill on the ball with an inspired run before this spell of pressure was rewarded with an excellent goal for striker Jack Walton.

We looked the better side going into half time, a substitution seeing Keelan Vellacott and Jakub Kulczyki coming on for Toby and Patrick. This change of personnel changed the pace of the game and it became quite a scrappy battle for possession for both teams. Honiton did their best to break down our defences but Jakub showed good determination clearing the ball out of play on several occasions to deny the Sharks.

Our boys fought hard with some great runs from Eden Reynell and Keelan Vellacott both creating some more shots on the Honiton goal. A well struck corner from Jack Walton gave us another opportunity to clinch the lead. Their keeper produced a handful of saves denying our team from taking an advantage.

With the drama of extra time and penalties looming, both teams looked destined to end the match 1-1 but with only 90 seconds remaining, a bad decision to play the ball back to our defence gifted our opponents a goal in the dying moments to dash any hopes of a spectacular finish to the morning’s football.

An unfortunate result, given the effort our player gave on the pitch. Again a simple mistake being the difference between the teams, but if we learn from these lessons, our fortunes will change and the illusive win will soon come. Twyford gave a good all-round performance today, I am proud of every player.
