Match Report - Twyford Spartans - B U14's 2010/11

Twyford Monaco got their season off to a satisfying start with a brave 2 - 1 away win at Brixington. The game was an even affair and the sides both played some good football at times but it was Monaco who were the better organised and even though Brixington had the lion's share of possesion in the second half they were never allowed to directly threaten Tom Haines in goal who's handling was excellent throughout. The centre back pairing of Jack Zilch and Alex Wright were superb and Alex Goldsbrough's positional sense and quality passing was excellent.

Dan Verrier's dead ball striking gave the home team problems whenever free kicks and corners were awarded and it was from one of the corners that Monaco took the lead with Anthony Ansell stabbing the ball in off the post.

Harry Denson and Nick Merriam's strike pairing was working a treat against two big central defenders and it was from another Verrier corner that was fired home by Merriam mid way through the second half which put some daylight between the teams. Brixington pulled a goal back three minues from time with Haines helpless when a shot from distance was deflected into the net.
