Twyford Monaco continued their winning start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Sidbury in which thay showed once again their new confidence as a unit. In a tense and even game neither side was giving anything away. The Sidbury players towered over the majority of the Monaco team but it failed to be a benefit to the away side as Alex Goldsbrough, Bradley Kelly, Harry Denson, Connor Tucker and the like fought even harder than usual.
Chances were few and far between and Tom haines had only one save to make in the first half in which he coped well intercepting the through balls and claiming crosses. The defence was solid with captain Jack Zilch and Alex Wright once again in fine form.
The second half was barely underway when a Sibury player was injured and a half hour delay ensued while an ambulance was called. Monaco responded to the delay and looked the better side for the rest of the match. Anthony Ansell and Tom Roberts found more time on the ball and Dan Verrier went close with a good shot from the left. Richard Sandiford was impressive out on the right wing and Nick Merriam and Kelly were causing problems for the defenders whenever they had the cance to turn and run.
It was very late in the game when Monaco finally got their chance. Nick Merriam robbed a defender on the right and squared for Kelly to thump the ball in with great confidence. Sidbury tried in vain to get back into the game but Monaco held their nerve against a very good Sidbury side.
