Match Report - Twyford Spartans - B U14's 2010/11

Twyford Monaco dropped their first points of the season after a real battle with St Martins. Credit must go to both teams who showed strength and quality all overt the pitch and in the end St Martins edged a 3-2 win out of a game that could have gone either way.

The first half was very even and the new midfield pairing of Tom Parkins and Tom Roberts had the better of their opposite numbers and it was Parkins' through ball that set Nick Merriam away to put the home side ahead midway through the first half. Merriam and Bradley Kelly continued to look menacing at times and Anthony Ansell played well on the left flank. The St Martins front line was very strong and Jack Zilch, Alex Wright, Harry Denson and Alex Goldsbrough along with keeper Tom Haines performed heroically to keep them at bay which meant that Monaco went in one nil up at the break.

In the second half St Martins pressed and pressured the Monaco goal constantly but just as it seemed an equaliser would come it was Ansell who calmly slotted in number two for Monaco. St martins kept their heads up and pulled a goal back and then soon after equalised. To Monaco's credit their heads never dropped and they continued to create chances but it was St Martins who got the breakaway to score in the final minutes.
