16.01.2011 DGFL Twyford Spartans 2 3 Phoenix Club Alice Kent (1), Amy Sanders (1)

This was always going to be a close good game as Twyford and Phoenix as they were evenly matched last season.  Twyford started off brightly making chance after chance but they could not put them away.  This start to the game was proving too much for one dad who could not cope with the excitement and had to go and get a coffee to calm his nerves.

Against the run of play Phoenix broke away and the speed of their striker was too much for our defence and she went on to score the first goal of the game.  Within a few minutes of the restart Katie Adcock took the ball down the left passed in to Amy Sanders who put it away to score our first goal.  The game continued in the same way with the ball being played mainly in the Phoenix half of the pitch.

The girls came in at half time with the score at 1-1.  In the second half the girls continued to push forward but fell foul when a long ball forward caught out the Twyford defence and Phoenix went on to score their second.  This did not stop the Twyford girls they continued to push on with many attempts but they were just not going in.  The girls were looking for a draw from this match and as we continued to attack the third goal for Phoenix came.  This goal seemed to spur the girls on and at last their hard work was rewarded with a good goal from Alice Kent.

Well done to this team of girls who improved on last week's performance and I know that if the girls continue improving like this their first win at 11 a side will come.

A very good game by both teams and we look forward to meeting them again next week in the County Cup.
