Our team knew they needed to defend well against tough opposition. For the opening ten minutes, our starting back four of Caius Hill, Scott Hellier, Travis Snowden and Kieran Tebby remained disciplined and maintained shape catching the Bridgwater strikers offside.

The Twyford defence looked an organised unit commanded by Kieran Tebby and Scott Hellier who both made decisive challenges and patrolled their line well. David Rawlings and Brad Burnett attempted to get the ball out to our wide players, but were contained by a strong Bridgwater midfield whose physical presence kept our attacker quiet for much of the early stages.

It was mid-way through the first half when a run down the right-hand side saw Bridgwater open the scoring from a cross whipped into the bottom corner of Harry Toogood’s goal.  A change in personnel saw Dan Tidborough and Reagan Holwell replace and injured Kieran Tebby and Scott Hellier.

After the goal, Bridgwater continued to test the Twyford keeper running at the Twyford defence and muscling past our midfielders and shooting from distance. Bridgwater looking the most threatening and after another ten minutes banged in a superb second goal struck for 25 yards. We began to show signs of fatigue in the last 10 minutes of the first half and this allowed the visitors to score a further 3 more goals before the whistle blew.

The game restarted and Twyford still seemed sluggish given Rhode lane the opportunity to break down the right wing and fumble a goal past replacement keeper Travis Snowdon. Before we had chance to shake off the cobwebs, another goal soon followed.

With a switch for Kieran Tebby and James Henshaw and Caius Hill coming on for David Rawlings, the balance of power shifted and it Twyford Spartans who dominated much of the possession. Conor Mogford and Simon Holwell turned on the flair laying the ball off to one another and tearing through the Bridgwater defence. Kieran Tebby made a blistering run down the right wing, skipping past two players and crossing ball over to Alex Morey-Jones who buried it into the net. GOAL for Twyford!

Reagan Holwell and Scott Hellier both made a number of strong tackles clearing the ball out of play but eventually it was Bridgwater who caught our players sleeping with another sloppy two goals where we lost concentration.

In the last ten minutes of the game, we began to shine as Brad Burnett started to link up with Kieran Tebby, Simon Holwell and Conor Mogford all lining up to take shots, but it was Alex Morey-Jones who came closest with a disallowed goal flagged offside.

This was an excellent TEAM performance which at times had their opponents on the back foot and looking very tame. With more link play between the wide players and our two strikers we could have easily scored three or even four more goals. The score did not reflect the effort of the players.

Good performances from everyone, but Brad Burnett, Simon Holwell, Alex Morrey-Jones, Scott Hellier and Kieran Tebby played extremely well.

Our biggest challenge is still staying awake for the whole of the game, but the first and last ten minutes of the game were by far our best performance of the season. All the components of a successful team are there and we have shown we are a very capable side. Keep going boys; you will earn your first win soon.
