Match Report - Twyford Monaco - B U13's 2009/10

Twyford Monaco started their league campaign with a hard fought 4 - 2 home win over Exwick who proved to be a very hard nut to crack. Even though Monaco pushed and pressed their opponents for the whole match at times it looked as though they would be frustrated.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half and showed some good pace which tested the back four of Toby Hogan, Alex Wright, Connor Tucker and Jack Zilch. Monaco quickly responded and Nick Merriam found Matt Watts who finished well to equalise. It was Monaco who went into the break with a slender lead when Dan Verrier's corner caused mayhem in the Exwick penalty area and Hogan reacted quickest to thump the ball home.
Monaco kept the tempo of the game high and were unfortunate when Exwick equalised from a breakaway but always looked likely to add to their tally with Verrier and Harry Denson looking dangerous on the flanks. The scores didn't stay level for long as Merriam found space to run at the heart of the defence and after riding some strong challenges, slotted the ball home. Another excellent delivery from Verrier was powerfully headed in by the impressive Anthony Ansell to give a little breathing space for the home site who had fought hard against good opposition and had come away with a very well earned three points.
