Monaco eased themselves through to the second round of the cup with 7 - 0 home win against Beacon Knights. Nick Merriam and Dan Verrier proved to be thorns in the visitors' side throughout and Jack Zilch and Harry Venner excelled at the back.
Midfielder Matt Watts found himself free in the box to score two carbon copy goals for Monaco before Merriam made it three from Aaron Farebrother's pass and it was Merriam again who prodded the ball home from Verrier's corner to make it 4 - 0 at half time. Tom Haines in goal was well protected by his defence of Matt Gillet, Toby Hogan, Venner and Zilch and was rarely called into action.
Farebrother made it five early in the second half from the spot after Merriam was brought down and soon after another wild challenge on Merriam resulted in Verrier scoring from the free kick. Merriam crowned an impressive display by rounding off the scoring with a strong run and finish after a good ball by Tom Roberts.
