Twyford Lyon recorded a 12 - 2 home win against Watchet in their opening fixture of the Taunton League. The quality of their football was excellent throughout the game and but for a very good visiting goalkeeper the score really could have been doubled. Nick Merriam started where he left off last season with 4 well taken goals and Tom Roberts smashed in two in his first game after a seven month injury layoff. Anthony Ansell worked hard in midfield and showed some quality touches and passing. Matt Watts scored in a very good performance, Tom Haines found the top corner with a header from Watts' cross and Aaron Farebrother calmly turned in a Merriam pass after another flowing move. Dan Verrier swung in dangerous crosses from the left for the Twyford strikers to feed on and deservedly got his goal with a cool finish after a long run.
Harry Venner was busy at the back and fought hard all game to keep the Watchet strikers quiet and Ricky Morrey Jones made some good saves and could do nothing about two excellent goals from the visitors. Tom Lazarus and Joseph Duncan played confidently in the full back positions and got forward well at times.
Toby Hogan always looked like he had a goal in him and finally got his reward near the end. Alex Wright rounded off the scoring near the final whistle.
