Match Report - Twyford Lyon - B U13's 2009/10

Twyford Lyon made it three out of three in the Taunton League with an excellent 4 - 1 away win against Wellington. Both teams started the game with attack in mind and the wind was taken out of Wellington's sails when Nick Merriam collected a pass from Joseph Duncan and curled his shot into the top corner from outside the box. Twyford had the best of the attacking chances in the half but only managed to take a slender lead in at the break. Jack Zilch was outstanding in his role at left back and his defensive collegues Matt Gillet, Alex Wright and Tom Haines remained disciplined and dealt with any pressure well.

Lyon had the chance to kill the game off early in the second half when Aaron Farebrother's pass found Merriam who rounded the keeper to tap in number two. But this only stirred Wellington into life who pulled a goal back immediately. Soon after though Lyon scored their third from a breakaway which was enough to break their opponents confidence and from that moment the result was never in doubt.

Farebrother and Tom Roberts had limitless energy and used the ball well while Dan Verrier and Anthony Ansell played well down the flanks. Ricky Morrey Jones dived to his right to stop a good shot near the end before Roberts burst into the area to square the ball unselfishly for Merriam to score his hat trick.
