Twyford Lyon started slowly against Nether Stowey in the Taunton league and squandered chance after chance in the first half and it wasnÂÂt until 20 minutes into the game before they took the lead. Dan VerrierÂÂs inviting corners produced chance after chance with Toby Hogan connecting with two but just missing the target on each occasion. Nick Merriam finally headed in the opener and then the flood gates opened. Lyon upped the tempo and were able to relax a bit more on the ball. VerrierÂÂs long range effort made it two and Merriam grabbed his second to take Lyon in 3-0 at half time. In the second half Dan Hayfield weighed in with a well taken hat trick, Alex Wright chipped in with two goals and Merriam completed his hat trick near the end after a good passing move involving Hogan and Hayfield. Even though the game was mainly one way traffic, credit must go to the Lyon team for their desire to keep a clean sheet. During the second half Nether Stowey were able to break on occasions but found that they were always caught before they could threaten the Lyon goal.
