Type: MDSL = Mid Devon Soccer league

DATE TYPE FIXTURE GOAL SCORERS
08.03.2009 MDSL Twyford Milan v Moors Joseph Flanagan (1)

Neither teamÂÂÂ’s spirits were dampened on this very wet and windy morning, which made this a very closely fought fixture. Twyford Milan contained the advances of the MoorsÂÂÂ’ players early in the first half defending hard and maintaining their shape in the midfield. However, it was Moors who broke the deadlock midway through the first half with an opportune goal. Caius Hill and Ryan Roberts made several runs up their respective wings almost giving Twyford an equalising goal, but it ended as a narrow miss just wide of the target.

The experienced Moors side pushed on through the centre of the pitch trying to exposure holes in the Twyford defence but Cameron Tapp, Ollie Hall-Tomkin and Brandon Eccles protected their goalkeeper through decisive clearances and strong challenges. Eventually our midfielders were broken down and Moors scored a couple of long range goals before half time.

The second half was a different contest, Daniel Tidborough and James Henshaw linked up well with Ryan Roberts who took an excellent strike and was rewarded with a goal early after the break. Twyford had much more possession and produced some good combination play through the MoorsÂÂÂ’ midfield. When Moors did break, Alex Morey-Jones produced some outstanding diving saves and numerous brave clearances helping to keep his side in the game.

Brad Burnett worked hard in central midfield and helped by Travis Snowden at right back halted several Moors runs in their tracks muscling in and winning the ball from their opponents. Twyford took the game by the horns and clawed another goal back following an excellent solo effort from Joseph Flanagan running through two players and producing a sensational finish.

An undeserved own goal by Twyford helped Moors to victory before the game was abandoned due to hail, poor visibility and fallen goalposts. This was a fantastic close contest played with the greatest of spirit from both teams, a closer battle than the final score suggested. Twyford gave excellent performance from everyone and were a joy to watch.
