29.03.2009 MDSL Bradninch v Twyford Milan

The beautiful countryside and glorious sunshine made the perfect setting for Sunday morning football. The Bradninch players set the pace early and pressurised the Twyford defence straight from the whistle, battling to win every challenge. Frequent passing and high crossed balls proved difficult for our boys to cope with and led to the first goal for the home side.

James Tourle, Brandon Eccles and Thomas Lockyer worked hard as a defensive unit trying to contain a fiery Bradninch attack, but were often exposure three against five. But there were a couple of long range strikes from outside the area which were unstoppable despite a leap from keeper Alex Morey-Jones.

Ryan Roberts made several runs down the left wing, but unfortunately did not get the service from central midfield which created holes for our opponents to exploit and use to their advantage to punish us. Our strikers Conor Mogford and James Henshaw linked well with winger Kieran Tebby and made a couple of breaks down the right, but were contained quickly by the Bradninch defence and kept out of the majority of the game.

After a ten goal deficit at half time, a few words of encouragement and some new direction saw a better beginning to the second half. Shortly after the break Brad Burnett set up Ryan Roberts but he was denied by the keeper.

As the game progressed, we began to tire which enabled Bradninch to run through the middle of the pitch bombarding the Twyford Goal, several shots flying over the crossbar, others successfully pushed past the post or tipped over for a Bradninch corner.

This was a difficult match against a well organised side, at the tail end of a long campaign. Twyford were on the back foot for the majority of play and never seemed able to recover from the constant onslaught of attack from Bradninch.

My admiration must go to Alex Morey-Jones for his determination and attitude giving a tremendous performance in an incredibly busy goal. Alex made numerous diving saves and shot stopping parries and was involved in many goal mouth scrambles. The end result bears no reflection on his performance; his efforts prevented an even larger number of Bradninch goals.
